Round of Updates for Ijok - April 26th 2007

48 hours to go. Here're some interesting updates related to Ijok.

Tun Mahathir to Ijok Viters : Send signal to the 'rotten' government
The Ijok state seat by-election this Saturday is the right time for the voters to shatter the government’s propaganda that all is well, said former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Will Najib, Khir Toyo or Samy Vellu resign if Ijok becomes “second Lunas”?
Among the three – Umno Deputy President and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Umno Selangor chief and Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohd Khir Toyo and the MIC President and Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu – will anyone of them resign if Ijok becomes a “second Lunas” on Saturday with Barisan Nasional (BN) losing the seat despite the worst electoral corruption and most undemocratic campaigning in the 50 year history of the nation?

Ijok: Journalist lodges police report on BN candidate
A police report had been lodged against K Parthiban, BN candidate for Ijok, by a journalist, M Yohalinggam. This is his second report against the man. The journalist said he was threatened by Parthiban in March 2006, who also threatened to finish off his career.

BN Machinery In High Spirits As Abdullah Visits Ijok
Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi visited the Ijok constituency today to see for himself Barisan Nasional (BN) preparations for the by-election on Saturday. The prime minister's visit is likely to spur the BN election machinery to go the extra mile in countering the challenge mounted by the opposition led by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR). Abdullah was received by BN candidate K.Parthiban, who is Tanjung Karang MIC secretary, and Umno information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhd Taib on arrival at the BN operations centre in Kampung Bukit Badong here.

PM Tells BN To Continue Hard Work To Ensure Ijok Win
Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has urged Barisan Nasional leaders and election machinery not to let up on the hard work until the last day of campaigning to ensure victory for BN candidate K. Parthiban in the Ijok state by-election on Saturday. The prime minister said that everyone must cooperate and extend their full support to Parthiban despite the voters' apparent support for the BN.

I can tear Anwar down, says Samy
MIC president S Samy Vellu today launched a scathing attack against Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Anwar Ibrahim over the Maika Holdings shares scandal. The veteran politician accused the former deputy premier of misleading the public over the matter, which has become part of the opposition’s election campaign.

Adoi... Bernama!
Bernama also rises to the occasion, connecting Washington with Ijok. The headline: Anwar's Ally Now Battling For Survival After Pay Scandal -- the Anwar ally here is World Bank president, Paul Wolfowitz. It's journalism par excellence! The only relevance of the headline to the 16-para story is just the 37-word intro. Don't we need Fox News come 2012 when Bernama TV beams right into your bedroom... Adoi!
