Ijok : It's GIRL POWER!

The faith of Ijok lies in the hands of women voter as women power will most likely decide the outcome of the Ijok by-election on April 28. Women voters form nearly half of the 12,272 electorate in the constituency.

With local boy Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim of PKR to face Tanjung Karang MIC division secretary, K. Parthiban.

KUALA SELANGOR, April 17 (Bernama) -- Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, former CEO of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) and Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad, is Parti Keadilan Rakyat's (PKR) pick for the Ijok seat, party president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail announced, here Tuesday night.

Khalid, 61, a local boy from Kampung Jalan Raja Abdullah in Jeram, Kuala Selangor, is also PKR's national treasurer and Selangor chairman.

A former corporate figure, Khalid helmed PNB from 1979 to 1994 and later became Kumpulan Guthrie CEO from 1995 to 2003.

Monday, the Barisan Nasional (BN) named Tanjung Karang MIC division secretary, K. Parthiban, 38, as its choice for the seat. Parthiban, 38, was also special assistant to Deputy Education Minister Datuk Noh Omar, who is Tanjung Karang MP.

The Malay-majority Ijok seat fell vacant following the death of BN assemblyman Datuk K. Sivalingam di Chennai, India, on April 4.

The Election Commission has set Thursday for nomination and April 28 for polling in the event of a contest.
