Tun Mahathir Allowed To Return Home

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- "I am fine, nothing really," said former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad when he was allowed to go home, Monday after undergoing treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) since Sunday for flu.

Accompanied by his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali and wearing a light blue long-sleeved shirt, he appeared to be in high spirits saying, "it was just a general check, they found nothing," when met by reporters at the lobby of the hospital at 4.15pm.

The institute's cardiology specialist Datuk Dr Mohd Nasir Muda, who was also with him, said: "He came in for a bout of flu.

"As usual, we did our normal tests and he was found to be well."

He said Dr Mahathir, who underwent coronary bypass there in January 1989, needed to undergo annual follow-up checks at the IJN but this depended on the state of his health.

Dr Mahathir was admitted to IJN early yesterday morning after complaining that he was not feeling well and was warded at its CoronaryCare Unit (CCU), but was later transferred to the normal ward after it was found that it was only a case of flu.

Last Nov 9, he was admitted to IJN after suffering a mild heart attack but was discharged after being treated for five days.
