RM23 Million to restore PM's High School

WTF?! It is indeed shocking to hear that PM has allocated RM20 Million under 9MP to redevelop Bukit Mertajam High School, which is also PM's alma mater. And even more surprisingly, another additional RM3 million to restore Block C just like as it before.

RM20 Mln For Redevelopment Of Bukit Mertajam High School

SUBANG JAYA, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Thursday night made a surprise announcement that the government is allocating RM20 million under the Ninth Malaysia Plan for the redevelopment of Bukit Mertajam High School in Penang.

Abdullah also announced an additional RM3.5 million for the restoration of the school's Block C.

"We have decided the school heritage should be retained. At least Block C should be restored with the original look just like before.

"Therefore, the government has allocated RM3.5 million for the restoration work so that it will look good like so many years ago," he said in his speech at the Bukit Mertajam High School reunion dinner, here Thursday night.

About 700 former students and teachers attended the reunion dinner organised by the school alumni in conjunction with the 80th anniversary of the school.

Abdullah was a former student of the school which was established on Jan 18, 1927. Bukit Mertajam High School was one of the earliest English schools in the northern part of peninsular Malaysia.

The redevelopment of the school would also include building a new hostel for the boys and the girls, laboratories, teachers' quarters and a sports pavilion at Jacob's Green.

It will be carried out over the next five years.
