Abdullah Ready To Meet Mukhriz As Wanted By Umno Youth

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is ready to meet Umno Youth Exco member Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir to hear his explanation over the remark he made on the presidential address at the party's general assembly, as wanted by the youth wing.

"I had left it to Umno Youth to decide what it wanted to do. Whenever they need my cooperation, I have no problem cooperating with them," the Prime Minister told reporters after chairing the Umno Supreme Council meeting here Friday.

Abdullah was asked to comment on Umno Youth's decision that Mukhriz had been asked to meet him to clarify his remark over the presidential address at the party general assembly last month, which he (Mukhriz) had described as containing no new ideas.

Thursday, Umno Youth Chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the movement had unanimously accepted Mukhriz's apology after it was satisfied with the latter's clarification on it and hoped that he would learn a lesson from the controversy.

When met after the Umno Supreme Council meeting today, Hishammuddin said he welcomed Abdullah's readiness to meet Mukhriz and hoped the youth Exco member would do so.

"I am glad the President is willing to meet Mukhriz over the matter. Umno Youth will make the arrangements," he said.

Asked on the date of the meeting, he said it was up to the Umno President to fix the date at his convenience.

Earlier, during the press conference, Abdullah said that Umno would implement all the three resolutions adopted at the general assembly namely the that on the thank you motion on the presidential address, the economy and education, and religion and social issues.

He said the Umno Secretariat would coordinate and implement the resolutions.
