PM's Firmness A New Approach, Says Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- The firmness shown by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is a new approach aimed at countering the negative views of certain quarters on his ability as a Prime Minister and Umno President.

Muhyiddin, an Umno Vice President, said that what Abdullah wished to convey was that although he was sometimes gentle in administrative matters, there was also firmness to ensure that no one went over the limit.

"I don't think the Prime Minister was issuing a warning, but he was merely showing firmness to prevent any quarters from looking down on his working style including in government administration.

"This is a new breeze of fresh air. It can be called a different approach, because his approach earlier was rather gentle, people had made the wrong perception before," he said to reporters after opening the Asian Seedlings Congress 2006, here, Tuesday.

He was asked to comment on Abdullah's statement during the President's Briefing before the Umno General Assembly, when Abdullah stressed that no one should test his patience.

According to Muhyiddin, Abdullah had led the government and party for three years and had assessed the people's reactions and how he should handle issues.

Asked on the "raising of voice culture" which was becoming more evident in Parliament, Senate and State Assemblies, which Abdullah touched on, he said, there must be a limit to the practice.

"There must be justification for raising one's voice, it should not be mere rhetoric," he said.
