MCA Youth Expresses Concern Over Umno Youth Criticism

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- MCA Youth Friday expressed concern over several points raised by the delegates at the Umno Youth assembly three days ago.

MCA Youth chief Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said that "as a multiracial country, whatever the race, they should also consider others."

Though it did not mention any specific points raised by Umno Youth, it was obvious that the MCA Youth was referring to the strong criticism hurled at MCA, Gerakan and MIC leaders.

"It is important that we cultivate trust among the races. The sincerity in raising the issue is important. They can raise (any issues) but cannot make baseless accusations.

"What I'm very concerned with is that we must cultivate a harmonious spirit among the races and concern for others and help each other, not hatred," he said, he told reporters after chairing a four-hour MCA Youth Central Committee (CC) meeting at Wisma MCA here Friday.

Liow said the MCA Youth CC members discussed the matter during their meeting and they also welcomed remarks by Umno Youth chief Datuk Hishammuddin Tun Hussein that Umno Youth had no quarrel with its MCA counterpart as they were all part of Barisan Nasional.

"We are still in good relations despite there being some different views. We can agree and disagree. We hope that through the Barisan Nasional spirit, we can overcome all this," he added.

Liow said the meeting also discussed the issue on the use of beta agonist on pigs by some livestock breeders in several states which had caused concern among consumers.

He said MCA Youth called on the state government to revive their respective committees on beta agonist to supervise the use of the substance in livestock.

He called on livestock breeders not to use beta agonist, saying that many warnings have been issued on the matter.
