KUALA LUMPUR, 12 Nov (Bernama) -- Many Umno members are disappointed because former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad cannot attend Umno general assembly which begins Monday.
"It (Dr Mahathir's absence) is a disappointment for many people ...," Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim told reporters when met at his Hari Raya open house in Taman Grandview, Ampang Jaya here Sunday.
Dr Mahathir was warded at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 4.30am on Thursday for mild heart attack.
He may be discharged on Thursday next week at the earliest but doctors treating him have strongly advised the former premier to take a rest for two months.
Rais urged the delegates at the assembly to refrain from belittling the former premier who is credited for transforming Malaysia from an agrarian economy into an industrialising nation during his 22 years in power.
Dr Mahathir retired three years ago and hand-picked Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to succeed him.
