KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the government would extend all the facilities needed to treat former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who suffered a mild heart attack last week.
"The government is responsible to provide all the treatment facilities to the statesman," said the Prime Minister when officiating the Umno General Assembly 2006 at the Putra World Trade Centre here Wednesday.
"Let us all pray for his fast recovery," said Abdullah who is also Umno president.
He said Umno also prayed that Dr Mahathir's wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamed Ali, and his family members would be given peace and strength during the trying times.
Dr Mahathir was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Nov 9 for a mild heart attack at his home at about 3am.
He was discharged from the institute on Tuesday at 5.30pm after being treated for six days. Dr Mahathir, however, was advised by the doctor to rest for at least three weeks.
Dr Mahathir today apologised to Umno delegates for failing to keep his promise to attend the assembly. However, Dr Siti Hasmah managed to attend the gathering.
