Agong Visits Tun Dr Mahathir At IJN

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is being treated for a mild heart attack at the National Heart Institute (IJN), today received a royal visit from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid.

They arrived at the institute at about 5pm, and spent more than one hour with Dr Mahathir.

Dr Mahathir had been receiving visits from Cabinet members and dignitaries since 9.45 am.

Among them were Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Shamsuddin who told reporters later that Dr Mahathir was undergoing a physiotherapy, and he looked good, cheerful and in high spirit.

Asked whether there were discussions on the Umno General Assembly with Dr Mahathir, Abdul Aziz replied: "No. We did not discuss. I came just to meet him."

Abdul Aziz's visit was followed by one from PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang. Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Federal Territories Minister Datuk Zulhasnan Rafique were also among Dr Mahathir's guests, Monday.

Others included former MCA president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, and Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat and his wife, Ivy Chong.

Dr Mahathir's son, Mokhzani, who was at the institute, refused to comment when approached by the media.

Dr Mahathir, who suffered a mild heart attack on Nov 9, was expected to be discharged from the institute on Thursday.

He was transferred from the IJN Coronary Care Unit to a regular ward last Friday. Currently, he is undergoing several light exercise sessions. Dr Mahathir was advised to rest and avoid work for two months once he is discharged.
