Khairy To Explain Offending Remark At BN Youth Meeting

MELAKA, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- A remark by Umno Youth vice-chief Khairy Jamaluddin that is said to have offended Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties will be discussed at a BN Youth meeting.

Khairy said BN Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, who is also Umno Youth chief, would set the date of the meeting.

"I'll wait for the date set by Hishammuddin and we will discuss with BN Youth to strengthen unity and cooperation and relationship," he told reporters after opening the Tangga Batu Umno Youth, Wanita and Puteri delegates conferences here Sunday.

He said the BN Youth meeting was the best forum to him to state the truth.

"I don't want to discuss (the matter) in the newspapers because I know it's not constructive," he said.

Khairy has been criticised of late, particularly by the MCA leadership, after he was quoted as saying that if Umno became weak, other BN component parties would take advantage of the situation with various demands.

In JERANTUT, Hishammuddin said Umno would not open its doors to anyone who attempted to disunite members in the party and Umno Youth would fight those who tried to fish in troubled waters.

Speaking to Jerantut Umno delegates at their conference today, he also urged Umno members to give undivided loyalty to party president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

"Whatever the challenges that come, we will continue to support the current leadership," he said.

Hishammuddin, who is Education Minister, told reporters later that all elected representatives should monitor projects to build new schools in their constituencies to ensure that they did not face any problem.
