KUALA LUMPUR: Kubang Pasu Umno chief Datuk Johari Baharom today (Sept 5, 2006) denied the allegation that he has prohibited members from nominating former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as a delegate to the Umno general assembly.

"I've never told members not to vote for him. I told them earlier it's up to them (who they want to vote)," he said in parliament lobby.

Yesterday, Mahathir said he believed the Umno Supreme Council had appointed Johari to ensure that the delegates do not vote for him on Saturday (Sept 9, 2006).

He also said Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Radzi Sheikh Ahmad was at the Kubang Pasu division "practically everyday" to meet with branch leaders to block his election.

Mahathir received 16 nominations from 139 branches in the division.

He had launched a scathing criticism of the current administration in recent months, and said he wants to speak as a delegate in the party's general assembly in November.
