KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said his son-in-law, Khairy Jamaluddin, who has been the target of slander and allegations by various parties, will not hold the post of Umno Youth deputy chief if the delegates did not want him anymore.

The Prime Minister said: "If the people don't want him, why wait, isn't it?

"Of course, if the people don't want him, he will not hold the post," said Abdullah, who is Umno President, when asked to comment on Khairy's statement yesterday that he was prepared to quit his post if the movement considers him a liability to the party.

Looking calm and cheerful when fielding questions by reporters on the matter after opening the Community Sports League at Padang Semarak in Angkasapuri here, Abdullah said all Umno leaders should hold the same principle.

"Yes, Yes...whoever he is, the principle is the same," he said, agreeing to a reporter that the post held by Khairy now was elected by Umno Youth delegates.

Khairy said he was prepared to relinquish his post as Umno Youth deputy chief if he was considered a liability to the movement.

Opening the Wangsa Maju and Cheras Umno youth divisional meetings Saturday, he also replied to allegations levelled against him by certain parties and those posted on the Internet.

Among them are he interfered in government administration, became a millionaire overnight and could afford to buy ECM-Libra Berhad shares.

On Friday, he denied he had married popular Malay actress Maya Karin.
