KUANTAN, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Friday all Umno divisions should abide by the party's regulations and refrain from quarrels or causing disturbances at their annual meetings being held now.

"My advice is that they should adhere to the regulations and not cause disturbances or engage in quarrels. That's all," he told reporters after visiting a people's housing project in Kampung Pak Mahat, Kempadang, near here. Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob accompanied him.

Asked whether the party had issued a guideline for divisions on the conduct of their meetings, Abdullah said: "There is no guideline".

Umno divisions are required to hold their delegates' meeting between Aug 3 and Sept 10.

Abdullah, who is Umno president, was also asked about the resignation of a number of Umno divisional leaders recently.

Three main leaders of the Shah Alam Umno Division resigned last Wednesday because they did not agree with the decision of the division on the appointment of a member of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).

They are divisional secretary Shamsudin Hashim, information chief Mat Taib Mat and treasurer Datuk Manan Md Said.

The trio reportedly resigned after Shah Alam Umno Division Head Datuk Salamon Selamat announced a proposal to name Sharin Ahmad, a committee member of the division, as a new council member of the MBSA at a special meeting of the division last Wednesday.

On Aug 4, Ipoh Barat Umno Division Youth Chief Syed Mohamed Noor Azmi Syed Hassan Nazari had resigned citing personal reasons.

Abdullah, in responding to the question, said: "I heard that the resignations were over other matters, nothing to do with the party; they were for personal reasons.
